Legal Profession Act
The Legal Profession Act, created in 1992, governs the legal profession in The Bahamas. It describes the responsibilities of the Bahamas Bar Association and the ways it should operate. It also dictates the process to become a member of the Bahamas Bar and the rights and liabilities of attorneys admitted to practice.
The Bahamas Bar Association and the members of the Bahamas Bar must abide by the rules laid down in the Act, and are subject to the consequences for breaking these rules.

Code of Professional Conduct
Every lawyer is expected to observe the Code of Professional Conduct set out in the Legal Profession Act. You can read the code by looking up the second blue volume of subsidiary legislation of The Bahamas, chapter 44, pages 888 – 918.
The Ethics Committee and the Disciplinary Tribunal consider the Code of Professional Conduct as it investigates complaints lodged against attorneys.
