The Bar is governed by the regulations

The Bahamas Bar Association is governed by the regulations set out in the Legal Professional Act. The Bahamas Bar Council is the body that ensures that the Bar Association meets these obligations.

The Bar Council is made up of 10 attorneys:

  • Five members of the Bar Association, elected by the membership,
  • One member of the Bar Association selected by the Attorney General
  • The four Officers of the Bar

The Officers of the Bar have dual responsibility as members of the Bar Council and in their respective posts. Officers are also elected by the members of the Bahamas Bar Association. Elections are held each June and Officers hold their position for two years.

Currently, the Officers are:

  • Jacy Whittaker, Vice-President
  • Glenda M. Roker, Treasurer
  • Tara Rolle-Knowles, Honorary Secretary
  • Dawson Malone, Three Year Council Member
  • E. Terry North, Three Year Council Member
  • Krysta M. Moxey, One Year Council Member
  • Samuel Campbell Jr., One Year Council Member
  • Joseph D’Arceuil, One Year Council Member
